The short version

We run a publishing website. We do not sell personal information. The signup form on our home page runs entirely in your browser and does not transmit your address anywhere. If you email us, we hold your message so we can reply to it.

Information you give us

If you contact us by email or telephone, we receive whatever you choose to include — typically your name, your email address and the content of your message. We use it to respond, and we keep correspondence only as long as it is useful for that purpose or as required by law.

The "Get car tips" form

The signup form on our home page is a browser-only demonstration of an email signup. When you submit it, your address is validated by a script running on your own device and echoed back to you on the same page. It is not sent to a server, not stored by us, and not shared with anyone. If we introduce a genuine mailing list in future, this policy will be updated first and the form will say clearly where your address goes.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure records standard technical data when a page is requested: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, and the date and time. This is used for security, troubleshooting and understanding aggregate traffic.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar browser storage. One remembers whether you have dismissed the cookie notice so it does not reappear on every page. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which articles are read. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site remains usable if you do.

Third parties

Web fonts on this site are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when a page loads. Our hosting provider processes requests on our behalf. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we share it only where necessary to operate the site or where the law requires it.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and to object to certain processing. Residents of California and of other states with comparable laws may have specific rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information under our control, including HTTPS across the site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
